On January 15, 2024, the Delhi High Court granted bail to Shahidul, an individual arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for possession of 66 grams of smack, which was later found to weigh 30.369 grams during the sampling process. The court raised concerns over the discrepancy in the weight of the contraband and the procedure followed during the arrest. The court also noted the lack of clarity in the notice served under Section 50 of the NDPS Act.
As a result, Shahidul was granted bail on furnishing a bond of ₹25,000 and adhering to several conditions, including not leaving the country without permission, keeping authorities informed of address changes, and attending all hearings. The court emphasized that its decision to grant bail should not influence the trial proceedings.
