Rohit Choudhary and another petitioner filed a criminal revision petition in the Delhi High Court, challenging an earlier order and seeking preservation of Call Detail Records (CDRs) and location data of police officers involved in a raiding operation from 24.03.2021 to 25.03.2021. These records were relevant to the investigation in FIR No. 48/2021 filed by the Crime Branch.
The court had previously directed telecom service providers (Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone) to preserve the requested CDRs, as they were typically archived for only two years. The court emphasized the need to retain this information until further orders were issued. The petition was disposed of after confirming compliance, but the issue of supplying CDRs to the petitioner was left to the discretion of the Trial Court.
This case highlights the legal measures taken to ensure the preservation of crucial digital evidence in ongoing investigations.
